Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease of the respiratory tract that has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic. The increase in cases is partly due to the large number of TB relapses. TB relapses cause new problems because patients may be resistant to anti-TB drugs. The danger is that TB can return with stronger germs, making it difficult to treat, increasing treatment costs, and having a low success rate. Relapses in TB patients are caused by many factors such as age, education, smoking habits, and non-compliance with medication. This study aims to determine the factors associated with relapses in pulmonary tuberculosis patients. This study used a cross-sectional study design. This study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 53 pulmonary TB patients at Depati Hamzah Pangkalpinang Hospital on May 8 - May 31, 2024. The data collected were then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. The results of this study prove that there is a relationship between age factors (p-value = 0.001), education (p-value = 0.000), smoking habits (p-value = 0.000), and medication compliance (p-value = 0.000) with relapse in pulmonary tuberculosis patients. It is expected that Health Service Institutions can carry out strict supervision through the Directly Monitored Treatment (DOTS) program to ensure that patients take their medication according to schedule.
